The Science of Happiness

Awards and Recognition:
"How to be Kinder to Yourself" was acknowledged for its creative and effective storytelling, receiving an Excellence in Journalism award and an Award of Merit from IMPACT DOCs in 2020.

Gratitude Letter Episode:

This episode highlights children’s book author, Yuyi Morales, as she discusses the impactful practice of writing gratitude letters.

Creative Execution:
We visualized this story using paper puppets crafted from Andy Malpica's designs, inspired by Morales' book "Dreamers." This narrative was brought to life through a combination of digital and stop-motion animation.

Studio Team:
Andy Malpica, Emily Rasmussen, Reina Takahashi

Project Overview:
I directed five animated shorts for The Greater Good Science Center's The Science of Happiness podcast, aiming to visually complement and enhance the podcast's insights into well-being psychology, sociology, and neuroscience.

For the episode "How to Be Kinder to Yourself," I created a clay animation of podcast guest Elizabeth Guinto. This animation illustrated the self-compassion practices developed by Kristin Neff, translating these concepts into a visual format that made them accessible and engaging.

Client: Greater Good Science Center

Producer: Jane Bahk

Overall Impact:

The animated versions of the podcast episodes contributed to extending the reach of The Greater Good Science Center’s work by making the content more accessible to a broader audience. By adapting the podcast into visual stories, the animations offered an alternative medium through which viewers could engage with and understand the scientific content.
